Culinary event raises money for Scituate Animal Shelter

M

More than 100 animal lovers spent Sunday afternoon at the ?Fresh from Italy? culinary event, a Scituate Animal Shelter fundraiser held at the Orta Restaurant in Pembroke.

?I think it?s a great way to get not just the volunteers together, but people from the board,? said Erin Freeman of Hanson, who was enjoying a glass of white wine at the bar.

The event featured hors d?oeuvres, a candy and dessert bar and live and silent auctions.

Paul Kopulos, executive director of the Scituate Animal Shelter, said he expected to raise $12,000 ? about the same amount raised during last year?s event.

The restaurant donated the food and space.

Fresh from Italy is an annual event, and the shelter?s biggest fundraiser of the year.

Carol Mersereau, who attended with her husband, said the food was ?excellent,? especially the pasta, chicken parmesan and salad.
