Apple scores patent victory over Samsung in Holland

Apple has inflicted a sales ban on selected Samsung products in the Netherlands after a court ruled in its favour during a patent hearing.

The injunction only applies to older Android-based Galaxy tablets and smartphones, which were adjudged to infringe on an Apple-owned patent for scrolling through images using a touchscreen.

Samsung was ordered to pay its rival ?100,000 each day it violates the ruling and disclose how much profit the offending products have generated since late June, Computerworld reports.

Apple and Samsung have been locked in a bitter patent dispute across more than 10 territories for some time, with neither emerging as the clear victor.

However, the iPhone-maker hit its competitor with a successful $1bn lawsuit in the US market earlier this year, the most significant win either side has recorded since the dispute began.

Samsung and Apple are not the only tech companies involved in licensing disputes. Nokia today pursued a sales ban against BlackBerry devices as part of a legal spat with Research in Motion.
