Mali Islamists stone couple to death for adultery

BAMAKO (Reuters) - An al Qaeda-linked Islamic militant group in control of northern Mali stoned to death a married couple accused of engaging in extramarital affairs, the group's spokesman said.

The couple were publicly executed in the remote town of Aguelhok, near the vast West African nation's northern border with Algeria, on Sunday, a spokesman for the Ansar Dine group told Reuters.

"These two people were married and had extra-conjugal relations. Our men on the ground in Aguelhok applied sharia (Islamic law)," said Sanda Ould Bounama, reached by telephone on Monday.

"They both died right away and even asked for this application. We don't have to answer to anyone over the application of sharia," he said.

Most people living in northern Mali have long practised Islam, but frustrations with the strict form of sharia being imposed by Islamists have sparked several protests in recent months.

Ansar Dine and well-armed allies, including al Qaeda splinter group MUJWA, have hijacked a separatist uprising by local Tuareg rebels and now control two-thirds of Mali's desert north, territory that includes the regions of Gao, Kidal and Timbuktu.

Western and African governments are struggling to muster a response to the crisis as politicians in the capital Bamako continue to squabble over how the country should be governed after a March coup removed the country's president.

Keith Jardine and Thiago Silva is a great undercard bout for UFC 102. The bout will take place Saturday, August 29 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore. This light heavyweight fight definitely has all of the potential for fight of the year nominee. Fans can expect plenty of nonstop action from the onset and a stand up battle packed with punches from two of the most dangerous strikers in the division. Both fighters like to stand up and slug it out, but both should be fine if it goes to the mat. Silva and Jardine are both coming off losses so redemption for both will add to the action. According to Bodog, Keith Jardine is favored to win the fight with a payout of -145.

Another thing to remember when consulting or forming your own horse racing system is that you should not throw good money after bad. After experiencing a run of bad luck, a punter may feel inclined to place larger and larger bets in an effort to recover monies lost. While this strategy may get you out of trouble on the rare occasion, it is almost always a sure loser. Remember, in the game of gambling, losing money is a part of life and a run of bad luck should not cause one to change their strategy. Any horse racing system that changes based on the results of a few previous races is a weak one at its foundation and it should be discarded for a more consistent horse racing system.

Badminton's rock star: Lin Dan headlines London

LONDON (AP) ? The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Spice Girls, Beyonce ... and Lin Dan. Wembley Arena has rocked out to them all.

Lin, the closest thing badminton has to a rock star, turned the famed arena into his own mosh pit when the Chinese standout won one of the greatest finals in world championships history last year.

The thriller ended when he fought off two match points to deny Malaysian archrival Lee Chong Wei. Lin didn't let the drama end there: He ripped off his shirt with a guttural yell, embraced his coaches, pumped the air with two left hooks and saluted the still-applauding crowd.

Nearly a year later, he's headlining the arena again for the Olympics in hope of becoming the first man to retain the singles title.

He moved into the last 16 on Monday but he's still downplaying his chances for gold, especially for his 16 million followers on social media. But does the most decorated badminton player ever think about winning the London Games?

"Sometimes before I sleep at night, I would think about winning my second Olympic gold medal," he said. "However, I realized it was more important to remain focused on achieving my goal and not get carried away thinking too far ahead."

There was a time when impatience was his weakness. But training and maturity turned him into a winner of the Olympics, worlds, All England Open, Asian Games, and Thomas Cup ? each marked by a star tattooed on his left arm. When Lin won the Super Series Final last December, he became the first to complete what has been called the Super Grand Slam ? the winner of every major title available to an Asian, including the Sudirman Cup, World Cup and Asian championships. All by the age of 28.

His reputation's not entirely super, however. Lin has blemished his legacy through forfeits and retirements to help teammates: Seven times alone since late 2010. He's been accused of helping Chen Jin qualify for the last two Olympics by throwing the 2008 All England final and this year's Asian championships semifinal.

In fact, he's a bit of a bad boy: At the 2008 Korean Open final, Lin exchanged harsh words with South Korea's Chinese coach Li Mao after a disputed line call, threatening him and raising his racket. Then after losing, Lin scuffled with winner Lee Hyun-il. Three months later, Lin reportedly punched coach Ji Xinpeng in a pre-Olympic training camp.

Lin showed his class in the Beijing Games when he withstood the crush of expectations from home fans by crushing Chong Wei in the gold-medal final. Away from home, he expects to enjoy these London Games more.

"We have huge pressure when we play at home," he said. "All the people hope we can win every match and become champions. 'Champions, champions' is what we hear from them, or thinking about all the time. So the pressure gets bigger and bigger for us. In contrast, when we play abroad, play in a venue far from home, we feel relaxed. All we need to do is focus on the match itself."

Lin has had focus almost since he was born in southeast Fujian Province. The left-hander, who defied his parents' wish that he play piano, started badminton at the age of five. He was accepted into full-time badminton training at nine, and was picked for the national team at 18.

From the start he exhibited a quick-strike boldness, tactical nous and extraordinary footwork. Within three years of his senior international debut, he was ranked No. 1 in the world, in time for the Athens Olympics. He bombed in the first round but wasn't down for long. He became so successful, and one of China's highest-earning sportsmen, he had to register his name as a trademark in 2007 to stop it from being used by manufacturers without permission.

Since the Beijing Games, he's married Xie Xingfang, the retired two-time world champion and Beijing Olympic silver medalist, and concentrated more on titles than being No. 1. Hailed as the greatest badminton player, at least of this generation, he has stayed out of the spotlight in London. He looked relaxed though when he bumped into his friend Chong Wei outside their Wembley hotel and posed for pictures and compared expensive watches.

Their rematch in the final is the dream of fans. And one more chance to rock Wembley Arena.

Clinton's key role at Democratic convention

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Former President Bill Clinton will have a marquee role in this summer's Democratic National Convention, where he will make a forceful case for President Barack Obama's re-election and his economic vision for the country, several Obama campaign and Democratic party officials said Sunday.

The move gives the Obama campaign an opportunity to take advantage of the former president's immense popularity and remind voters that a Democrat was in the White House the last time the American economy was thriving.

Obama personally asked Clinton to speak at the convention and place Obama's name in nomination, and Clinton enthusiastically accepted, officials said. Clinton speaks regularly to Obama and to campaign officials about strategy.

Clinton's prominent role at the convention will also allow Democrats to embrace party unity in a way that is impossible for Republican rival Mitt Romney.

George W. Bush, the last Republican to hold the White House, remains politically toxic in some circles. While Bush has endorsed Romney, he is not involved in his campaign and has said he does not plan to attend the GOP convention.

Clinton will speak in prime-time at the Democratic convention in Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 5, the night before Obama formally accepts the party nomination. While the number two on the ticket often speaks that night, the Obama campaign has instead decided that Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will speak on the same night.

Biden will speak before Obama on Sept. 6, in front of tens of thousands of people expected to fill an outdoor stadium in Charlotte, and millions more on television.

The vice president's speech will focus on outlining many of the challenges the White House has faced over the past four years and the decisions Obama made to address them, officials said.

"To us it's about deploying our assets in the most effective way," Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod said. "To have President Clinton on Wednesday night laying out the choice facing voters, and then having Vice President Biden speak right before the president in prime time on Thursday, giving a testimony to the decisions the president has made, the character of his leadership and the battle to rebuild the middle class that's so central to our message."

Clinton's role at the convention was to be formally announced Monday. It was first reported by The New York Times.

Clinton spoke at the 2008 convention, part of a healing process for the Democratic party following the heated primary battle between Obama and the former president's wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Since then, the ties between Obama and Bill Clinton have strengthened significantly. Obama has called on the former president for advice several times during his term and the two have appeared together this year at campaign fundraisers for Obama's re-election bid.

First Pisa, now Rome's Colosseum - it's leaning

ROME (Reuters) - The ancient Colosseum of Rome, where gladiators fought for their lives, is slanting about 40 cm (16 inches) lower on the south side than on the north, and authorities are investigating whether it needs urgent repairs.

Experts first noticed the incline about a year ago and have been monitoring it for the past few months, Rossella Rea, director at the 2,000-year-old monument, said in an article published in the Italian daily Corriere della Sera on Sunday.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa, another of Italy's most popular attractions, was reopened in 2001 after being shut for more than a decade as engineers worked to prevent it from falling over and to make it safe for visitors.

Rea has asked Rome's La Sapienza University and environmental geology institute IGAG to launch a study on the phenomenon, with investigations to be concluded in a year.

Tests have also started to observe the effects that traffic on nearby busy roads may have on the monument.

Professor Giorgio Monti, from La Sapienza's construction technology department, warned there may be a crack in the base below the amphitheatre.

"The slab of concrete on which the Colosseum rests, which is like a 13-metre (yard)-thick oval doughnut, may have a fracture inside it," he told the newspaper.

He said intervention could be necessary if the concerns are confirmed, along the lines of stabilization work carried out in Pisa, but he said it was too early to judge what kind of intervention would be most suitable.

The Colosseum - famous for hosting bloody gladiator fights in the days of the Roman Empire - attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists and is usually packed with visitors.

Discovery of new white blood cell reveals target for better vaccine design

ScienceDaily (July 27, 2012) ? Researchers in Newcastle and Singapore have identified a new type of white blood cell which activates a killing immune response to an external source -- providing a new potential target for vaccines for conditions such as cancer or Hepatitis B.

Publishing in the journal Immunity, the team of researchers from Newcastle University in collaboration with A*STAR's Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN) describe a new human tissue dendritic cell with cross-presenting function.

Dendritic cells (DCs) are a type of white blood cell that orchestrate our body's immune responses to infectious agents such as bacteria and viruses, as well as cancer cells. They are also very important for eliciting the immune response generated by vaccines.

DCs kick start an immune response by presenting small fragments of molecules from micro-organisms such as bacteria and viruses, or from vaccines or tumours, called antigens on their surface. This leads to activation of another white blood cell subset called T cells, which specialise in killing cells and are crucial for eliminating cancerous or infected cells. Most cells are only able to present antigens from within themselves, and so will only elicit an immune response if they are infected themselves. Only a specialised subset of DCs is able to generate a response to an external source of antigen, for example bacteria, vaccines and tumours.

The identity of human tissue DCs that are capable of presenting external antigen to activate the cell-killing response by T cells -- a process termed 'cross-presentation' -- has remained a mystery. Their discovery, as revealed by this research, will help scientists to design better targeted vaccine strategies to treat cancer and infections such as Hepatitis B.

"These are the cells we need to be targeting for anti-cancer vaccines," said Dr Muzlifah Haniffa, a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Fellow and Senior Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University. "Our discovery offers an accessible, easily targetable system which makes the most of the natural ability of the cell." The researchers also showed for the first time that dendritic cell subsets are conserved between species and have in effect created a map, facilitating the translation of mouse studies to the human immune system.

"The cross-species map is in effect a Rosetta stone that deciphers the language of mouse into human," explains Matthew Collin, Professor of Haematology from Newcastle University.

In the paper the researchers describe how the cross-presenting DCs were first isolated from surplus plastic surgery skin which was digested to melt the gelatinous collagen to isolate the cells. This research will have significant impact on the design of vaccines and other targeted immunotherapies.

The Rosetta Stone of our immune system: Mapping Human and Mouse dendritic cells

The Newcastle University team in collaboration with A*STAR's Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN) have for the first time ever aligned the dendritic cell subsets between mouse and humans allowing the accurate translation of mouse studies into the human model for the first time.

The researchers isolated the dendritic cells from human blood and skin and those from mouse blood, lung and liver. Using gene expression analysis, they identified gene signatures for each human dendritic cell subset. Mouse orthologues of these genes were identified and a computational analysis was performed to match subsets across species.

This provides scientists for the first time with an accurate model to compare DCs between species. Professor Matthew Collin explains: "This is in effect a Rosetta stone that deciphers the language of mouse into human. It can put into context the findings from the extensive literature using mouse models to the human settings."

Dr. Haniffa added: "These gene signatures are available in a public repository accessible for all researchers to benefit from the data. It will allow detailed knowledge of individual human dendritic cell subsets to enable specific targeting of these cells for therapeutic strategy."

HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dn

The HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dn ($399 direct) is far from the fastest printer in its price class, but if you care more about output quality than speed, it may well be the printer you want. It delivers above par quality across the board, scores well on paper handling, and throws in a few extras, including a touch-screen control panel and the ability to print files from a USB memory key. If you need high-quality output and aren't overly concerned with speed, it's a potentially good choice.

Much like the similarly priced Canon imageClass LBP6670dn ($399 direct, 3.5 stars) that I recently reviewed, the M401dn is aimed primarily at micro and small offices and workgroups. However, it's also suitable for a home office with unusually heavy duty print needs, assuming you can find room for it. At 10.7 by 14.4 by 14.5 inches (HWD), it's a little smaller than the Canon printer, but still a little large to comfortably share a desk with.

Most of the reason for the large size comes from the paper handling, which includes a built-in duplexer (for printing on both sides of a page), a 250-sheet paper drawer, and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray. This should be enough for most small offices, but if you need more, you can add a 500-sheet second tray ($125 direct).

Also worth mention is that the printer supports an assortment of mobile printing features, including HP ePrint (for printing through the cloud), Apple AirPrint (for printing from iOS devices), and various Web-based printer apps. It doesn't offer Wi-Fi, but HP says that the HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dw ($449 direct), is the same printer with Wi-Fi added. All the comments in this review should apply to the dw model as well.

HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dn

Setup and Speed
Setting up the printer was standard fare. For my tests, I connected it to a wired network and ran the tests from a Windows Vista system.

HP rates the M401dn at 35 pages per minute (ppm), which is the speed you should see when printing text files without much formatting. On our business applications suite, however, it was surprisingly slow for the rating. I timed it (using QualityLogic's hardware and software for timing), at an effective 5.9 ppm. In comparison, the Editors' Choice OKI B431dn ($349.99 direct, 4 stars) came in at 11.1 ppm, and the LBP6670dn, which is also rated at 35 ppm, came in at 14.8 ppm in simplex (one sided) mode. The Canon printer was even faster than the HP printer when printing in duplex (two sided) mode, at 10.3 ppm.

Output Quality and Other Issues
What the M401dn lacks in speed, it at least partly makes up for in output quality, with above-par scores across the board. Text quality isn't quite a match for the best looking mono laser output, but it's suitable for printing small-size fonts readably. Depending on how demanding an eye you have, you may consider it suitable for desktop publishing applications.

Graphics output is easily good enough for any internal business need, including printing PowerPoint handouts. Most people would also consider it suitable for printing, say, graphics in reports going to an important client. Photo quality, similarly, is better than most mono lasers can manage, which makes it easily good enough for printing photos in a client newsletter or the like.

One potential issue for the printer is its running cost. The claimed 2.4 cents per page is lower than you'll find with many printers in this price range. The LBP6670dn, for example, claims a 2.8 cent per page cost. On the other hand, it's higher than some other printers, with the B431dn in particular claiming 1.8 cents per page. A 0.6 cent per page difference works out to $60 per 10,000 pages. Depending on how much you print, that can add up to a difference of hundreds of dollars in total cost of ownership over the life of the printer.

I also ran into an issue with trying to print from Photoshop 7 using the printer's higher-quality modes, with the printer giving an error message instead of printing. I don't consider this a major issue, however, both because the problem doesn't show up at all resolution settings, and because HP has already found a fix for it. HP sent me the current beta version of an the upgraded driver. A quick spot check proved that it has no trouble printing with the same files and settings that the current driver reliably chokes on.

The trio of HP, Canon, and Oki Data printers offers a variety of choices. If you need a basic workhorse printer for lots of printing, and running costs are a key concern, the OKI B431dn is probably your printer of choice in this group. If you care more about top speed, the Canon LBP6670dn may be more attractive. (And note that speed may be more of an issue if you plan to print in duplex most of the time, since duplexing takes longer.)

If top-quality output is most important for you, however, or you want to take advantage of built-in mobile printing features, the HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dn is the obvious choice, and it may well be the printer you want.

Financial Accounting: Bridging Finance and Bridging Loans

The global financial condition is decreasing each day. Therefore, most financial brokers take extra pain to assist all clients with huge support in loan solutions. There are many dimensions to borrowing bridging loan, and hence, this article hopes to help you in visualizing the entire approach in getting help with bridging finance and bridging loans.

There are unlimited loan brokerages or companies that offer significant variations in loan rates. The usual loan rates for bridging loans and full status loans begin approximately at 5.50% per year. This rate is, however, different for the no proof income loans and, therefore, those rates are 0.75% each month the normal rate. Bridging loans are a short term funding solution used inevitably to meet your needs as you transition from selling your existing property to buying a new house.

The bestbridgingloans.com has great information on securing this type of loan for a short time. This type of loans is usually used for residential and commercial property investment. There is also an opportunity to use this type of loan to invest in overseas properties limited to terms and conditions given by the company.

The open and closed bridging loans are the two types of loans. The closed bridging loans are ideal when you plan to sign the contract for your new property. There is a transition period between buying the property and selling the existing one. This makes use of loan effective, because you can pay the loan off when you have access to your funds from the existing property. These loans do not require proof of income, so you do not need to worry if you are currently jobless.

Open bridging loan can be your last option, when all the other opportunities are not available or when other options fail. This type of loan can be used to buy an auction property only to resell or refurbish the property within a year. The advantage of this loan is that there is no pressure or time limit in paying the loan in return. You are in control of the time; however, it is best to clear the open bridging as soon as possible.

There is always negative and positive consequence to every decision you take. It is the same with the decision on the loan. You have all the information on different types of bridging loans, but you are in control of weighing the bad and good in making an application on the loans. Bridging finance can be your friends in time of your need; nonetheless, these loans also remind you the responsibility of paying them back in time. More information can be found on www.bestbridgingloans.com this will give you insight on the types of bridging loans.

Randy MossAP

49ers receiver Randy Moss did a lot of talking on UStream after he decided to return to the NFL and before he found a team.? Since finding a team, he hasn?t done much talking.

On Friday at training camp, he did.

?These guys here love to work, they love to compete and they know just by me signing here it?s just something that me being around a great group of guys [who are] young and enthusiastic makes me feel young, too,? Moss said in comments broadcast on ESPN?s NFL Live.? ?The love that I have for the game of football is gonna always be in me and I just wanna play football and that?s just really being here and Coach Harbaugh and this organization accepting me and bringing me here was just something hopefully I can give something back in return and that?s with my play and my presence out on and off the field.?

Also on Friday, coach Jim Harbaugh continued with the gushing that has emanated from multiple members of the organization throughout the offseason.? ?The funnest part is out on the practice field,? Harbaugh said.? ?I get some joy being around Randy Moss out there.? He?s got a knack for saying the right thing at the right time.? The right joke at the right time.?

The joke ultimately may be on those who are ready to write off Randy?s chances of playing well in 2012.? After his comments were played during NFL Live and Herm Edwards said Moss could catch 10 touchdown passes this year, Adam Schefter and Bill Polian were skeptical, to say the least.

?Ten touchdowns is awfully high for a player who was out of football last year, who had a minimal impact the year before, who basically hasn?t made a contribution ? a meaningful contribution ? since 2009,? Schefter said.? ?There?s a spot for him in the San Francisco 49ers offense.? But we?re not getting the 25-year-old Randy Moss, we?re getting the 35-year-old Randy Moss.?

Polian was more blunt.

?The guy I saw two years ago, played against was not the Randy Moss who set records in New England,? Polian said.? ?I didn?t see any explosion, didn?t see any speed.? [Editor's note:? Darrelle Revis may disagree.]? So, he?ll have to make a believer out of me.? If he?s doing well by Week Eight then he?s back.? Otherwise, I have my doubts.?

It would be easy to agree, given the manner in which Moss disappeared in Tennessee after being essentially fired by two teams in less than a month.? But two factors could prove them wrong.

First, the praise of Moss from his teammates, both for his performance and his attitude, has been universal and unequivocal.? Everyone in San Fran loves the guy, and everyone who has seen him work since joining the 49ers believes he can still get it done.

Second, we?ve seen this movie before from Moss.? After his second year with the Raiders in 2006, the popular view was that Moss was washed up, that he was done, that he couldn?t run.

Rejuvenated by a trade to the Patriots, Moss ran down Jerry Rice?s record for single-season touchdown receptions, propelling the Pats to the first undefeated 16-game season.

When Randy?s head isn?t in it, it doesn?t matter what his body can do.? When Randy is ready to go, his team will get the best of whatever he has.

The point is that we shouldn?t assume anything about Randy?s physical abilities based on what we saw in 2010 because his performance was hampered by the fact that he didn?t care.

He cares now.

?I play when I wanna play.?? It arguably belongs on his tombstone.? For now, it should prompt anyone who thinks based on 2010 that he won?t have it in 2012 to think again.

Helpful Tips When Planning To Date A Recovered Alcoholic

Alcoholism is a disorder that should be treated for a long period of time through lifestyle changes, psychotherapy and support groups. It can be difficult to bring someone into your life who is at the stage of recovery from alcoholism because of the sensitivity of his condition. But if you want to date with a recovered alcoholic, you need some education about the disorder.

Alcoholism becomes riskier for those who started to consume alcohol at an early age, have alcoholic loved ones and have suffered from mental problems like anxiety and depression. According to professionals of alcohol rehabilitation centers, those who have recovered from the habit will need continuous support from their loved ones and friends to help them abstain from the substance forever. If you are planning to date a recovered alcoholic, here are some tips that you can use.

First of all, make sure that you fully understand what alcoholism is. You should be aware that when a person suffers from this disorder, he will have to struggle with this for a lifetime. After a certain period of time, an alcoholic may be able to recover from this disorder; however, there is a strong possibility that he will turn to alcohol again when he is stressed or have to go through some depressing changes in life. You can learn about the disorder from a mental health expert of alcohol rehab centers.

Talk to the person you want to date with about alcoholism and tell him to share his experiences when he was addicted to alcohol. It is important that you always tell him openly your concerns. If you have been drinking alcohol yourself, tell him about this as well.

When the recovered alcoholic agrees to date with you, ask him how he might feel if you drink alcohol in his presence. If this doesn't sound good for him, then there's no point of doing this. In the first place, you should help the person deal with the recovery process as much as you can. It's not ideal to take him to places where social interactions and situations that trigger alcohol cravings are present. You should respect his decision to remain sober and completely change his lifestyle.

Many professionals of alcohol rehabilitation centers say that it is important to recognize the possibility of relapse. Always remember the triggers that the person you are dating with had informed you about. It is imperative that he feels your full support to avoid triggers. Finally, do not focus your relationship with him on alcoholism alone. Recognize his presence as a love of your life and someone who you might end up with forever.

Dating a recovered alcoholic requires respect to the person's past and ongoing alcohol-related issues as well as knowledge on alcoholism. It is important that you support him to continue to be alcohol-free for life.

Community Health: Community-Based Careers: Dedicating Your ...

During the day you work in an office doing whatever it is that you have become so skilled at doing. You use the little spare time you have to run marathons, organize fundraisers, join rallies, and do whatever else you can to participate in local initiatives and causes. But despite your efforts to split yourself in two, you still feel like what you're doing for the community isn't enough.

First off, don't be so hard on yourself. The fact that you even want to dedicate yourself to community projects is in itself extremely admirable. Second, there exist two incredible industries that that will allow you to reconcile your need for an income with your dedication to community involvement. Here they are:

Health, Wellness and Fitness

Health is among the most prevalent issues that every society must address. Ensuring that a society is strong and prosperous will necessarily involve ensuring that it is also healthy. The issue at hand, of course, is that no government or state can force healthy habits upon its citizens. While some governments have developed laws and policies that make it harder for people to make bad health choices (i.e. increased taxes on tobacco products) and easier to make good health choices (i.e. more access to affordable, local produce) there still remains a dire need for societies to adopt healthier lifestyles.

That said, a worthy career venture to take on would be that of a health, wellness, and fitness advisor. Doing so would put you in a position to help people understand why and how they should adopt healthier lifestyles.

Typical Health, Wellness and Fitness programs include the following community courses:

- Exercise Techniques

- Critical Analysis for Health, Wellness & Fitness

- Nutrition

- Theories of Weight Management

- Aerobic Training

- Fitness Equipment & Facilities

- Health Issues in Canada

Sport Injuries

Social Services

We all know that it is vital for people to maintain a healthy lifestyle on both the physical and emotional levels. The difficult part about this is receiving the necessary guidance and support to achieve both of these levels of wellness.

Careers within the social services industry include, but are not limited to, mental health workers, guidance counsellors and employment counsellors. By working in the social services industry, you will be able to take on the role of someone who not only educates people on how to maintain a good, balanced mental state, but also protects them by way of educating them on what their rights are as a person.

A Social Services Worker Diploma is a type of Urban Studies program, and can often include the following courses:

- History & Ethics of Social Work

- Introduction to Group Dynamics

- Privilege & Oppression

- Working with Children & Adolescence

- Issues Related to Family

- Crisis Intervention

- Community Change

- Social Policy & Law

Being a health advisor or a social worker will involve earning a diploma in a Community and Urban Studies program. The majority of the curriculum in either program will deal with community courses, ones that aim to educate aspiring community professionals on how to communicate with the different segments of the population and how assess varying issues.

Community professionals are vital to any society and help maintain a healthy and thriving population. You've reach a point in your life where you are torn between your career aspirations and your desire to want to help people on a daily basis, and now you know how to reconcile the two.

Over half of the metro areas in U.S. see ... - Real Estate Industry News

By Dennis Norman, on July 26th, 2012

dennis-norman-st-louis-realtor-This morning RealtyTrac? released its Midyear 2012 Metropolitan Foreclosure Market Report, showing that, for the first half of 2012, foreclosure activity increased from the prior 6-month period in 125 of the 212 metro areas in the U.S. that have a population of 200,000 or more. On a positive note, the foreclosure activity for the first half of 2012 was less than that in the first half of 201 for 129 metro areas.

Highlights from the report:

  • California accounted for seven of the 10 highest metro foreclosure rates and 10 of the top 20 metro foreclosure rates during the first half of the year.
  • Florida accounted for four of the top 20 metro foreclosure rates, and Illinois accounted for two of the top 20. Georgia, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado each had one city in the top 20.
  • Stockton, Calif., posted the nation?s highest metro foreclosure rate, 2.66 percent of housing units (one in every 38) with a foreclosure filing in the first half of 2012 ? more than three times the national average. There were a total of 6,218 Stockton properties with a foreclosure filing during the six-month period, a decrease of 13 percent from the previous six months and a decrease of 16 percent from the first half of 2011.
  • Four other California cities ranked in the top 5 metro foreclosure rates despite decreasing foreclosure activity: Modesto at No. 2 (2.61 percent of housing units with a foreclosure filing), Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario at No. 3 (2.59 percent), Vallejo-Fairfield at No. 4 (2.56 percent), and Merced at No. 5 (2.15 percent).
  • Atlanta was the only metro area with a top 10 foreclosure rate to register increasing foreclosure activity in the first half of 2012. A total of 46,267 Atlanta area properties had a foreclosure filing during the six-month period, 2.14 percent of all housing units (one in every 47) ? the nation?s sixth highest metro foreclosure rate. Atlanta area foreclosure activity increased 3 percent from the previous six months and was up 5 percent from the first half of
  • Half of the nation?s 20 largest metro areas in terms of population documented increasing foreclosure activity from the previous six months, led by the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro area in Florida with a 47 percent increase.
