Well, sales and leases aren't really the same.

Sales that are financed should show both as a sale and as a financed amount. Contracts for payment are part of tracking and reporting. This is different than AR, which is a Current asset.

I think your question also revolves around who is at risk if the financed sale is not paid off. Who owns the contract for payment? Whoever had the sale might be carrying the financing, which means they have Sales data and also Asset (collection) data. Or, they sold the contract to be collected by someone else.

The seller of the goods might then?have sold the finance balance to an independent party (so the total Profit?of the sale is reduced by the selling of the balance to be collected, adjusted somehow for consideration of FMV or future value, of course). The seller of the goods has a net from the sale, in this case. Gross sale - contract sold.

Or, the seller has a Flooring arrangement with the Manufacturer who also provides financing. So, the seller Sells the equipment, pays off their flooring arrangement, and no longer is at risk for the financing. Gross?sales price minus flooring payoff and minus amount financed = net retained.

I wouldn't call sales "Inflated" for any of this. You have to know about the "other transactions" associated with a specific sales operation to determine if you are looking at Sales or Revenue or Gross Profit.

A "known buyer" is not a buyer until the deal is done.

Double amputee Pistorius makes Olympic history

South Africa's Oscar Pistorius made history on Saturday when he became the first double amputee to compete in an athletics event at the Olympics.

The 25-year-old qualified for the semi-finals of the 400 metres by running a season's best of 45.44 seconds in finishing second.

Pistorius, who had both legs amputated below the knee before he was aged one, because of a congenital condition, runs on carbon fibre blades.

He is also due to run in the 4x400m relay at the Games.

Pistorius, known as the 'Blade Runner', competed in the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Paralympics.

But he was given the green light to make his debut in the Olympics following studies that found his prosthetics give him no advantage over his able-bodied rivals.

His personal best is 45.07sec in the 400m and Pistorius came to London wanting to break the 45-second barrier.

"When I found out I had made the team, a certain pressure left and another pressure came in," he said prior to the Games.

"It hits you when you're standing on the starting blocks. At Athens and Beijing, that's when it really dawned upon me."

He is clear to compete on condition he uses the same prosthetic legs that have been used in Paralympic sport since 1996.

Pistorius said exhaustive tests had proved that running on blades gave him no advantage.

"If I had to listen to the five percent of negativity, I wouldn't be here," he said. "If I have such an advantage, why isn't everybody else running the same times?"

Pistorius -- 13 kilogrammes lighter than he was in Beijing -- said he had no worries about competing in both the Olympics and the Paralympics, where his 89-year-old grandmother will be coming to watch him.

The challenge is rust. In at least four cases, corrosion has caused a rear-suspension arm to fail, putting a wheel severely out of alignment and causing the driver to lose control of their vehicle temporarily. No injuries or fatalities have been reported as a result.?

Toyota says it is working on a remedy and will notify owners by mail when it has one.

The Toyota recall involves:

• Approximately 760,000 Toyota RAV4 models from 2006 to early 2011
• Approximately 18,000?Lexus HS 250h from the 2010 model year

The problem involves suspension arms ? or tie rods ? at the rear of the vehicles. Earlier this summer, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating the problem after receiving seven complaints about RAV4s from the 2006 through 2008 model years. In four cases, a tie rod failed while drivers were going 35 miles per hour or more, causing a temporary loss of control.?

Toyota's investigation suggests that the rust collects if nuts are incorrectly reinstalled after a rear-end alignment.

"If the nuts on the rear suspension arm are not tightened following the proper procedure and torque specification during a rear wheel alignment service, excessive play may occur at the threaded portion of the arm, followed by rust formation," the company says in a release. "If this were to occur, the threaded portion of the rear suspension arm may wear and cause the arm to separate."

So far, however, the automaker doesn't have a solution.

In the meantime, Lexus and RAV4 owners can find out if they're affected by the recall by visiting the Toyota?recall website?and punching in their vehicle identification number.

The automaker has not suggested that drivers involved in the recall should stop using their cars. But "if a driver hears an abnormal noise from the rear of the vehicle, the driver should contact any authorized Toyota dealer for diagnosis," says a Toyota spokeswoman in an e-mail.
